Website Searching For Best Philly Bars

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A website that focuses on area happy hours and drink specials has launched a contest to find the best of Philly’s bar scene.

Adam Schmidt, president and founder of says the balloting is a departure from the usual “Best of Philly” contests.

“It’s usually editors’ choice of what are some of the best bars and restaurants and things like that,” he said. “So we thought it would be a great idea for the people of Philadelphia to be able to decide what the best places were.”

Awards will be handed out in seven categories, including best happy hour, sports bar, brew pub and wine bar. Schmidt says the balloting began on Tuesday and will end on February 15th.

“And then at the end of the two weeks, we tally everything up and the top ten in each category will move on to the final round, which will begin February 22nd, and it goes to March 8th.”

I think this is a subjective matter. Some like sports, some like music, some like dancing and some like causal conversation. There was bar, buried on little Camac St., – great piano player and a friendly crowd. I never could figure out how so many people found that insignificant watering hole. (Venture Inn)

One of the features on Drink Philly’s website lets you filter out places based on atmosphere. In the case of the Drinker’s Choice Awards obviously majority rules, that’s the nature of these things. But at least it’s an honest award and not one that can just be bought like Best Of Philly.

Not a very good example of a news worthy story by CBS.

If you can find the bar with the least amount of drunk idiots then you have found it, GOOD LUCK!!!
