More Extortion Charges For Former Police Inspector
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - More trouble, more charges for former Philadelphia Police Inspector Daniel Castro, who was indicted in November on charges he was involved in an extortion scheme. Now, authorities have filed an additional charge, alleging he had his hand in other extortion schemes.
Former Inspector Daniel Castro, who resigned from the department right before he was indicted, allegedly hired a collector to use violence and threats of violence to collect a $150-thousand debt he says was owed him.
Now, authorities allege Castro referred the services of the collector, actually an undercover FBI agent, to others to collect a debt owed them and Castro got a $500 fee.
And in a third case, Castro allegedly attempted to refer the collector to another debt collection job in Florida.
Castro pleaded not guilty to the earlier indictment; his attorneys have not commented on the new allegations.
