Pa. Man Charged With Stealing Silverware From Governor's Mansion

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- A Lebanon, Pa. man who worked as a chef at the Pennsylvania governor's mansion has been arrested and charged with stealing items from the residence (above).

Pennsylvania state police say Michael Yancey, 28, has been arrested a charged with stealing silverware and other items valued in excess of $10,000 from the governor's residence in Harrisburg.

The man was nabbed while selling the items to a pawn shop in Lebanon, Pa.

State police spokesman Jack Lewis told KYW Newsradio that this is a very unusual event.

"In the memory of people who work at the governor's residence for state police for quite a long time, this is the first incidence of theft that they're aware of," he said.  "It's very disturbing because this individual had passed a state police background check when he started working at the residence about nine years ago."

One of the items found in Yancey's possession is an NFL football signed by former quarterback Jim Kelly (who grew up near Pittsburgh) and addressed to former governor Ed Rendell, but Lewis says it was not immediately clear whether the football was stolen or given to Yancey.
