Positively Philadelphia: A Love-Letter-Writing Contest

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A contest inviting people to write love letters to Philadelphia is in full swing.

"Interest is coming from Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, and as far away as Alaska and Hawaii," notes Meryl Levitz, president and CEO of the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, which is conducting the contest.

The winning letter goes up on a billboard for the world to see, according to Levitz.

"We will probably put it on the I-95 billboard that is around Girard," she told KYW Newsradio. That billboard is currently advertising the letter-writing contest.

Levitz quoted what some of the contest entrants had to say:

-- "Dear Philadelphia, You had me at Yo!"

-- "Dear New England, Dear L.A.: It's a cheesesteak, not a steak and cheese...I'm homesick!"

-- "Dear Ed Rendell, That whole wussy thing -- you didn't mean us, right? With Love, the fans."

-- "Dear Boathouse Row, you light up my life."

So many entries have come in, they are now going to give out two awards.

"We are going to whittle it down to maybe the top 50 or something," said Levitz, "then let the people speak."

The contest runs until February 4th, so you still have time to enter.

"Go to visitphilly.com/contest and submit your 'With Love, Philadelphia XOXO love letter,' " Levitz explained.

That's Positively Philadelphia!
