New Castle County Burglary Suspect Calls 911 On Self

WILMINGTON (CBS) -- Authorities in New Castle County have arrested a man on burglary charges after he was found trapped in the residence Wednesday afternoon.

County police responded to a call at about 2:30 p.m. from suspect John Finch of Wilmington who police say locked himself in a home on the 800 block of Woodsdale Road in the Bellevue Manor development. Upon arriving at the scene, officers communicated with Finch through a cracked window in the rear part of the home and soon realized that Finch was not the owner.

Authorities say that the 44-year-old suspect may have entered the home through the window and they indicated that he had been their for a few days. During that time, he consumed three bottles of Seagrams gin and two bottles of Seagrams whiskey. Police say that because of his intoxicated state, Finch was unable to climb back out the window, nor was he able to unlock the main doors because they were secured from both sides.

The home was unoccupied during the time of the incident, but police say that it is owned by an 81-year-old individual.

Finch also had an outstanding warrant for burglary in the second degree and felony theft after it was discovered that he broke into the same residence in April of 2010.

Finch was taken into custody and has been charged with two counts of burglary in the second degree and two counts of felony theft stemming from both incidents.
