Philly "Day Of Service" Founder Says This Year's Will Be Huge

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The organizers of Philadelphia's annual "Martin Luther King Day of Service" unveiled the game plan for this year's observance, which occurs later this month.

Todd Bernstein (at lectern above), founder and director of the Greater Philadelphia MLK Day of Service, told a packed Founder's Hall at Girard College that this year's event is expected to eclipse last year's mark for numbers of volunteers and projects.

"On January 17th, in the 16th annual Martin Luther King Day of Service, we are expecting another record turnout: this time 75,000, serving in 1,200 projects."

One of those projects will involve volunteers refurbishing hundreds of computers and assembling digital access kits at Girard College, and conducting computer workshops and training -- all aimed at bridging the digital divide for low-income residents.
