ASTON, Pa. (CBS) — One of the area’s best women’s college basketball players calls Division III Neumann University home.
Senior guard/forward Katie Young is putting together a wonderful campaign for the Knights. She is their leading scorer and rebounder and in fact she has made an impact on the national scene. Young is the NCAA Division III leader in double/doubles – games with double figure points and rebounds. She talks about her reaction when learned about being at the top of that list:
“Pretty surprised, I didn’t even know it was a stat but I was pretty happy because I’m working hard. Just trying to get our team to win and that’s all that matters really.”
Listen to the podcast…
Young says it’s the rebounding that comes most natural to her:
“I never really had the scoring mentality, I guess you could say, during my career so I would definitely say rebounding.”
But she’s doing both equally well this season. She has ten double-doubles in eleven games for the 6-5 Knights. For the season, she is averaging 15.7 points and 12.5 rebounds a contest.
