Details For New Year's Day Mummers' Parade Announced

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Details of the  2011 Mummers' Parade were announced this afternoon at Broad and Pine Streets in center city.

Officials say the parade will step off at 10 AM on New Year's Day at Broad Street and Washington Avenue, then head north to City Hall.

There will be six "performance zones" with bleacher seating and nearby portable toilets.   Families are encouraged to gather at these zones.  Five of the zones are along Broad Street at Shunk, Wolf, Washington, Pine, and Sansom Streets.

The judging area will be at 15th and Market Streets.  Tickets will only be required at 15th and Market.

Michael DiBerardinis, the city's commissioner of parks and recreation (at lectern in photo), says kids will be able to get out of the cold and have New Year's fun at the High School for Creative and Performing Arts ("CAPA"), at Broad and Carpenter Streets in South Philadelphia.'

"Family are invited indoors to enjoy performances from the CAPA actors, dancers, musicians, and singers," DiBerardinis said on Wednesday, "and also we will be supplying snacks and hot chocolate for a nominal fee."

In case of inclement weather, KYW Newsradio 1060 will announce whether there will be a marching delay or a postponement, as soon as a decision is made (usually before dawn).

Reported by John McDevitt, KYW Newsradio 1060.
