2 Suspended After 7th Pa. Inmate Mistakenly Freed

THORNTON, Pa. (AP) -- Officials say a suburban Philadelphia jail has suspended two employees after an inmate was mistakenly freed— the seventh time such a thing has happened this year.

Officials say the burglary suspect was freed Dec. 7 from the George Hill Correctional Facility in Delaware County before final approval was given for home monitoring. Officials said Tuesday that he was back behind bars within 15 hours.

Robert DiOrio, solicitor of the Delaware County Prison Board, says the two employees have been suspended by New Jersey-based Community Education Centers International, which manages the prison.

At least six other prisoners, including a murder suspect, have been accidentally released from the jail this year. All have been recaptured.

County Executive Marianne Grace said the county was not happy about the news but the company continues to work at "refining their procedures."
