School Kids Get A Holiday Treat From The Rock School Of Dance

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A special kind of Nutcracker created just for kids is being performed this weekend by the Rock School of Dance Education.

Wait just a minute, Thomas Jefferson narrating the Nutcracker? And Benjamin Franklin created the Nutcracker for his niece, Abbie? That's how the story goes in Nutcracker 1776, an abbreviated, revamped Nutcracker just for children.

Kids from three schools saw a performance at the Julia Burgos School at 4th and Lehigh. For her part, 4th grader Omarys loved the narrator, "I liked how he came out with a costume so he wouldn't be left out."

Fourth grader Giovanni liked that the dancers were, "…were flexible and strong."

Nutcracker 1776 is a major component of RockReach, the Rock school's outreach program to expose more children to dance.

There are four performances this weekend at the Haverford School.
