Ring In The New Year With Fireworks & Fun In Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Now that the holiday season is here, have you made your plans for New Year's Eve? The City of Philadelphia is planning to ring in 2011 with a bang.

The city is once again doing not one, but two fireworks shows. There will be an early show at 6 p.m. followed by the traditional show at Midnight.

KYW Newsradio will broadcast the synchronized soundtracks to both shows with the show introduction anchored by with Steve Nikazy and CBS 3 will televise the Midnight show with Chris May, Susan Barnett and Kathy Orr.

"It's always fun to play lady gaga and music like that as we make a departure from all news, all the time," said Nikazy.

Some key vantage points will be on Penn's Landing in Philadelphia and at Wiggins Park along the Camden waterfront.

With activities all weekend, including the New Year's Day Mummer's Parade, more than 20 Philadelphia hotels have special two night offers, since we ring in the new year on a Friday night. Some of the extra perks include free hotel parking and late checkout Sunday afternoon.

Meryl Levitz of the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation says there is even a buy one get one cheesesteak deal.

"How can you start your new year without a cheesesteak," said Levitz.
