Philadelphia Parking Authority Offers Limited Free Parking

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A gift from the Philadelphia Parking Authority: free metered parking one day a week starting Saturday.

Drivers won't have to pay for street parking at any meter or kiosk on Saturdays from now through January 1st in any commercial district in Philadelphia for the entire day starting at 11am into the next morning until restrictions kick in at that particular site.

Linda Miller, deputy executive director of the parking authority, says it's PPA's holiday gift, "We have done this over the past years to encourage businesses, in particular not only in center city but also the neighborhood districts, so they can compete with the malls where they have parking that is free. So it's our way to give back to the citizens that want to get their shopping done."

Miller says safety regulations will be strictly enforced.
