New Jersey's Supreme Court To Hear Wildwood Mayor's Case

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - New Jersey's highest court will take up an issue involving the Mayor of Wildwood, who's on leave from his other job as a police officer. Some are pressing him to give up that post.

When Gary DeMarzo was elected to the Wildwood City Commission three years ago he put his police job on hold, "And that leave of absence stops everything. It stops your pay, stops your pension contributions and you step away from that position and you are entitled a constitutionally elected position."

But some political opponents of his suggest there are multiple potential conflicts of interest. They want him to make a choice and an appeals panel agreed.

The state Supreme Court will now address the question of a law in effect for more than a quarter of a century.
