Amtrak Expects Record Ridership

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Amtrak is expecting record-setting ridership today.

The big board at 30th Street was changing faster than ever.

Spokesperson Barbara Petito says Amtrak expects 30,000 passengers -- twice as many as usua l-- coming and going from there.:

"We have added some trains along the northeast corridor. We have added some coach cars, we have added some sleepers so we are doing the best we can with every piece of equipment that we have out there."

Gaynelle Widdleship, traveling from South Carolina to Pittsburg for the holiday, says the crowds haven't been a problem.:

"They were very organized...I bought my ticket early so I wouldn't have to wait in line, just showed up and hope it's not late."

Extra mechanics are on hand, to keep things moving in case of any breakdowns, and extra security is present, including specially trained bomb- and explosive-fume-sniffing dogs, for safety.
