Police: Teen Killed By Penn Police Had Jumped Bail

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Officials say the teen shot and killed by University of Pennsylvania police following a carjacking was wanted for missing a court appearance.

Investigators identified the man killed on Penn's campus early Sunday morning as 18-year-old Karl Sappleton.

Penn police shot and killed Sappleton after they say fired at them after crashing a stolen Cadillac on a street corner within the school's campus. Court records say he had skipped a hearing following a May drug arrest.

Philadelphia police were pursuing the car at the time of the crash.

Police said a second suspect, 18-year-old Leslie Mosby, was taken into custody. He was charged Monday with attempted murder, aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy, robbery, carjacking and other counts.

A listed number for him could not be found Monday and it was unclear whether he had an attorney.
