PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Fox Chase Cancer Center is hosting a session tomorrow especially for women, and it will contain inspiring stories from some who beat the disease.
The session named for Fox Chase board member and longtime Flower Show director Jane Pepper will feature an attorney and two authors discussing their successful bouts with the disease. For Cathy Bueti of upstate New York, author of Breastless in the City, breast cancer was not the worst thing to happen:
“When I was widowed at such a young age at 25, that was the worst thing that had ever happened to me, and it still is. When I was diagnosed with cancer, I thought if you can survive losing him, you’ll somehow be able to get through this. I didn’t know how I was going to get through it.”
One method was to continue to date even after a mastectomy and chemo. She says it kept her “in the land of the living” and eventually led to her meeting her second husband.
