Big Weekend At The Box Office For 'Jackass 3D'
(CBS) - A new 3D attraction had multiplexes crowded over the weekend.
Add 3D to the Jackass formula and what do you get? A first-place finish. Jackass 3D, the second sequel in the rowdy slapstick franchise, following 2002 and 2006 entries, ran away with the box-office crown in its debut weekend, earning an estimated -- and impressive -- $50-million.
Second place belonged to the weekend's other new mainstream release, RED, the action comedy with Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, and Helen Mirren. It took in a respectable $23-million.
As for the Facebook movie, which led the pack on each of the last two weekends, The Social Network ran out of new multiplex friends and dropped to third place with a total of $11-million. Rounding out the top five were holdovers Secretariat and Life as We Know It.
Overall, industry-wide totals were robust, far surpassing those of the last two weekends.
