Elkins Park PTO Treasurer Pleads Guilty to Embezzling

The former treasurer of the Parent Teacher Organization at Elkins Park Middle School in Cheltenham has admitted she stole more than $23,000 from the group over a one year period.

KYW's Brad Segall reports Geneen Stuart pleaded guilty to a felony theft charge in Montgomery County court admitting she embezzled the money while she was overseeing the organization's finances.

Prosecutors say the 46-year-old woman transferred the money into her own bank account and then used the funds to pay her bills. Assistant DA Steve Bunn says the money has been returned and that will be considered when she's sentenced later this year.:

"According to some people within that organization, even though she paid it back, the loss still caused some damage and still affected some activities that the students would have participated in."

Prosecutors say it was two other PTO officers who caught some of the discrepancies in the checking account and called police.
