Mayor Michael Nutter today announced the opening of a new Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service, and has officially introduced his new chief service officer.
KYW’s Karin Phillips reports that Nutter made the announcement at the second annual citywide Civic Engagement Expo, held on Dilworth Plaza adjacent to City Hall.

He also introduced the city’s new chief service officer, Catie Wolfgang (in red dress at far right), who says her job will be that of a conduit:
“There’s no shortage of Philadelphians who have the heart and the interest and the passion to volunteer, but helping to connect them to the organizations where they can really bring their skills is what I want to be able to do.”
The new office and Wolfgang, who will work with a team of Americorps volunteers, is being paid for by a grant from Cities of Service, a coalition of 100 mayors around the country working to encourage volunteerism.
