More Bike Share Demonstrations This Week
Bike Share Philadelphia will hold more demonstrations later this week to show off its bicycles and proposed docking stations.
KYW's Steve Tawa reports Bike Share Philadelphia founder Russell Meddin thinks the city's layout lends itself to pedal power:
"Philadelphia is the perfect place for public use bicycling or bike sharing - the density of the population, there's a large student body, the geography, the topography."
If Philadelphia embraces bike share, like Washington, Boston, or Denver, Meddin says the scale of the program will be important:
"I hope Philadelphia understands that these programs really work the larger they are."
That, so bike stations would be located within blocks of each other, to enable folks to commute, to run errands, or just to socialize:
"No less than 5,000 bikes and probably 400 stations."
You can take a spin on proposed bike share bikes and how to check in and out of docking stations on Thursday in front of the Penn bookstore, Friday on JFK Plaza and Saturday at Penn's Landing.
