Photographer Creates Unique Tribute For Fallen Officers
There is a special photographical tribute taking place that honors Philadelphia police officers lost in the line of duty.
KYW’s Michelle Durham reports the public is invited to “The Spirit of the Fallen.”
The photographs are of Philadelphia area dancers, many from the Pennsylvania Ballet, wearing Angel Wings in a variety of backgrounds to symbolize the officers. Images will be selected for a 2011 calendar with all the proceeds going to the FOP Survivors Fund.
Photographer Brian Mengini:
“I wanted it to have more of a tributary type of event. I didn’t want it to be just an exhibit. I wanted it to be more of a celebration of the life. So, we’re going to have some local Irish music, Irish Dancers, working on some guest speakers. So it’s going to be a full on event which will include an exhibit of images from my series.”
The gala is August 29th at the Irish Center in Germantown from 4pm to 7pm.
The money raised will also go to defray the costs of producing the calendar.
