Phila. Cop Turns Himself in After Caught on Tape

A Philadelphia Police officer, who authorities say was caught stealing on surveillance video, surrendered to officials Friday.

KYW's Michelle Durham reports 55-year-old Kenneth Crocket (right) was charged with theft and receiving stolen property.

Investigators say Crocket was observed on surveillance tape during a break-in investigation at a business near Pat's Cafe on July 27th, the same bar where Officer Gary Skerski was killed in May of 2006.

The responding officers found no evidence of a robbery at the original scene but decided to check the bar too. Surveillance video allegedly shows Crockett in the bar's safe and several hundred dollars was reported missing.

Crockett is currently under a 30 day suspension with the intent to dismiss. He's a 26 year veteran of the force and was assigned to the City's canine unit.
