Suspect Arrested in Montco Abduction, Assault

Authorities on Tuesday night arrested a man who they say abducted a young woman from a parking lot in Abington early Sunday morning and beat her before she was able to break free.

KYW's Brad Segall reports authorities say Reginald McNeill, 53, was arrested at a Philadelphia home and faces kidnapping, robbery, and related charges.

Police say he was released from prison in March 2009 after serving 27 years for rape and robbery.

Authorities say the woman was forced into her own car around 1 am on Sunday in the parking lot of Blockbuster on Old York Road.

Officials say she was driven to Philadelphia, where she was assaulted while in the car.

But Abington police chief William Kelly says she was able to break free:

"Actually, he had gotten one handcuff on her already, so she obviously was in great fear what would happen if she was able to be completely shackled."

Kelly says McNeill served extensive jail time for a previous kidnapping charge. He says his department got a lot of help from Cheltenham police, who previously observed the suspect involved in some suspicious activity.
