Local Forum Being Held to Discuss Future of National Parks

A public forum was being held on Tuesday afternoon [1pm to 4pm] in the studios of WHYY, looking at the future of national parks and other out-doorsy places.

KYW's John Ostapkovich reports this is a part of the President's Great Outdoors Initiative, to talk about land conservation and park preservation, among other things.  Cinda Waldbuesser, of the Pennsylvania division of the National Parks Conservation Association:

"All of our National Parks have different needs however, they also have needs in common."

Including funding to buy private land within their boundaries.  There's some private land in Valkley Forge Park, more elsewhere:

"At Gettysburg there's 686 acres of privately-owned land and in Delaware Water Gap there's almost 3,000 acres."

In addition to acquiring land, funding is needed to maintain, explain, and connect wild and historic places with the people who own them.
