Inception Holds Off Salt for Box Office Top Billing
It was another enthusiastic reception for Inception.
KYW's Bill Wine reports that Inception, a dream-saturated thriller fronted by Leonardo Di Caprio (right), finished first at the box office for a second straight weekend by earning over $43-million, according to studio estimates.
That kept it ahead of the new action thriller, Salt, starring Angelina Jolie, which took in over $36-million over its debut weekend for a solid second-place finish.
The holdover animated comedy, Despicable Me, placed third with $24-million.
The weekend's other new mainstream release, the new family comedy, Ramona and Beezus, earned a modest $8-million, good for sixth place.
Overall, it was another active weekend, with industry-wide totals modestly ahead of last year's pace.
