Brace For Traffic Jams As Major Area Road Projects Begin

by KYW's Al Novack

PennDOT says motorists can expect some big traffic tie-ups over the next couple of days on two major road projects underway in the Philadelphia area.

PennDOT's Gene Blaum says daytime lane closures on I-95 because of work on the Girard Point Bridge have been causing some major back-ups:

"If you're traveling north on 95 over the next several months, you really need to give yourself more time for travel because that single-lane closure on the bridge is resulting in back-ups, which at times, has gone as far south as the Philadelphia International Airport."

Southbound I-95 traffic at the bridge also is being restricted to two lanes at night for the next few days as crews lay new concrete on the road surface.

Blaum says the other big project causing headaches for motorists, is the Twin Bridges along Route 1, the Roosevelt Extension.  Northbound and southbound lane closures there are taking place day and night.

Blaum says because the projects, motorists are going to have to budget more time for trips on those routes.
