Blue Jays Get Even

Phils starting pitcher Cole Hamels(L, 6-6) surrendered 5 runs(3 homeruns) in just 4 innings work, combined with an off today for the bats, equaled a Phils 5-1 loss to the Blue Jays at Citzens Bank Park. Toronto's John Buck, Arron hill, and Alex Gonzalez all homered off of Hamels. Prior to today's game, Hamels was 4-2 with an ERA of 2.45 in his last 9 starts.

Toronto pitching shut down the Phils bats. Starter Shaun Marcum allowed just 1 run through 6 innings. The bullpen would then throw 3 hitless innings. Offensively the bats never really got anything going, just 0/3 with runners in scoring position. Jayson Werth struck out with Chase Utley on 2nd, to end the 1st. Ryan Howard grounded out to end the 3rd, leaving Jimmy Rollins at 3rd. Brian Schneider grounded out, leaving Ross Gload at 2nd, to end the 4th.

The Phils 4 game winning streak has come to an end. The Atlanta Braves squeezed by the Detriot Tigers 4-3, so the Phils drop to 3 1/2 games out of 1st in the NL East. Jamie Moyer takes the mound in game 3 of the rubber match Sunday afternoon at 1:30 on 610WIP. Sunday's game will also mark the end of interleague play.
