Top Spots With Happy Hours Every Weeknight In Philadelphia

As the work day draws to a close, more than one employee is checking the clock in anticipation of unwinding at a favorite happy hour hangout. Many factors contribute to why people choose one tavern or a bar over another to spend an hour or so before heading home. Location is a primary factor that influences that choice. Others include deals on drinks and food, the social atmosphere, the customers who frequent the establishment and, of course, prices. In Philadelphia, there are literally hundreds of taverns with happy hours from which to choose. Here are some of the best.

Located in South Philadelphia, Le Viet is a Vietnamese restaurant that hosts a happy hour for bar customers only. Running Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., drink specials include $3 beers and $6 cocktails as well as crispy spring rolls, Pop's Wings, papaya salad and Dancing Shrimp, to name a few of the appetizer specials. The menu items are made with fresh herbs, vegetables and other ingredients. And FYI, the restaurant also accommodates special occasions and group events, including office parties.

For many, the Oyster House has become a family tradition. Formerly known as the Sansom Street Oyster House, the restaurant was renamed, re-imagined and reopened in 2009. At the center of this Rittenhouse Square spot is a marble raw bar where fresh oysters, fish and other shellfish are served. Happy hour is observed from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Buck-a-Shuck Happy Hour features $1 oysters, $3 drafts, $3 shooters and $5 cocktails. Decorated with more than 100 collector oyster plates, the dining room provides an open, bright dinner spot.

The Standard Tap is a friendly two-story bar that was built in 1999 by William Reed, a former brewmaster for Sam Adams, and his partner, Paul Kimport. Happy hour is held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and features $1 off beer, liquor and mixed drinks. A chalkboard above the bar lists the many varieties of craft beers from Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey. A happy hour food menu is available as well.

Drinks, pierogies, grab-bag toys and a unique décor combine to make Tattooed Mom a unique experience. Happy hour is held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and again from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. from Monday through Friday, with half-off all draft beers. During the week, the bar offers various happy hour menu specials, such as $1 beef or vegetarian bean tacos on Tuesdays, $3 burgers and veggie burgers on Wednesdays and 50-cent pierogies on Thursdays.

While you're enjoying drinks at the Good Dog, try the roguefort-stuffed Good Dog burger. Known for its high-backed booths, this place is a homey watering hole. Police and fire members get a 20-percent discount every day, and Sunday through Wednesday, the "in the biz" 20-percent discount is offered to employees of restaurants and bars. From Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., happy hour prices are $1 off all drinks and half-price for cans of brew on Wednesdays.

Named one of the 50 Best Restaurants by Philadelphia Magazine, happy hour also features half-price appetizers, homemade chips at the bar and duck fat fingerlings and crab latkes. With granite bars on the first and second floor, the restaurant specializes in seasonal cocktails, fine wines and a variety of small-batch beers.
