Top Spots To Find A Breakfast Sandwich In Philadelphia

Nothing fuels you up and gets you ready to face the day like a hot, savory breakfast. With plenty of eateries serving up top breakfast sandwiches in Philadelphia, you can say goodbye once and for all to those hand-held concoctions from the drive through. Instead, choose one of these venues to start your morning right. The criteria for a good breakfast sandwich is flavorful breakfast fare folded into freshly baked bread, served up on a toasted bun, or rolled up in a wrap.

Farmicia

15 S. 3rd St.
Philadelphia, PA 19106
(215) 627-6274

Located in Philly's Old City neighborhood, Farmacia's goal is to serve simply crafted food in a relaxed yet lively environment. The food, much of it organic, is grown locally. Whether it's a traditional breakfast dish you crave or an offering from the eclectic brunch menu, Farmicia has you covered. The venue's creative sandwiches, including the ones served from the breakfast and brunch menus, are twists on classic dishes. The brunch sandwich is made with bacon, two eggs and melted cheddar on toasted sourdough bread. The burrito is another good choice with its country pork sausage, scrambled eggs, cheese and salsa. The toasted bagel and sliced avocado is another option, as is the BLT&E, which is served up on locally crafted, toasted bread.

Joe's Steaks + Soda Shop
6030 Torresdale Ave.
Philadelphia, PA 19135
(215) 535-9405
www.joessteaks.com

Joe's Steaks and Soda Shop is well known for its cheesesteaks and specialty fountain drinks, sodas and shakes. We'd be remiss, however, if we didn't point out menu items sure to please the breakfast crowd. Open at 10:30 a.m., the steak, cheesesteak and hot sausage are popular sandwich choices from this venue, but many would agree that for the morning crowd, the steak and eggs (cooked to your specification) can't be beat. While this popular pairing works nicely as a stand alone meal, the staff is happy to serve it up on your choice of white or wheat bread, gluten free role, or a wrap. Oh, and if you're in Fishtown, you're in luck -- this restaurant's second location opened there on April 1st.

Parc

227 S. 18th St.
Philadelphia, PA 19103
(215) 545-2262
www.parc-restaurant.com

Stephan Starr's French bistro serves up a taste of Paris right in the heart of Rittenhouse Square. If you order from the breakfast menu, we suggest the ham and Gruyere croissant or even the toasted bagel with Norwegian smoked salmon and cream cheese. Ordering from the brunch menu, however, provides more sandwich options. While the croquet madame, grilled ham and friend egg served up open-faced style on toasted brioche, is a favorite, you could also go with the lamb sandwich or French salami and idiazabal cheese served up on a freshly baked baguette.

Sabrina's Café
910 Christian St.
Philadelphia, PA 19147
(215) 571-1599
www.sabrinascafe.com

Sabrina's Cafe is a favorite destination for the brunch crowd. This beloved Italian Market neighborhood is big on breakfast. In fact, it's served all day. While we suppose that technically any sandwich could be dubbed breakfast food, Sabrina's has some traditional yet creative selections to choose from. The Barking Chihuahua comes to mind, a breakfast burrito wrap loaded up with scrambled eggs, pepper jack cheese, red peppers and black beans. It's large enough to share, but you may not want to -- it's that good. For classic breakfast fare, you can opt for the special egg sandwich, which consists of  scrambled egg whites, provolone, arugula, grilled Canadian bacon and marinara sauce on a roll.

The Trolley Car Diner, a restored 1950s era diner and 1948 trolley car, is a destination in and of itself. The locally sourced, home-style dishes contain only the freshest ingredients. The breakfast menu is popular and served all day. Breakfast sandwiches include a traditional egg sandwich, egg with bacon, and egg with your choice of ham, pork roll, sausage or scrapple. The breakfast burrito holds egg, bacon or sausage, cheese and your choice of condiments. The classic eggs Benedict is always a good choice, as is the open-faced sandwich of creamed chipped beef and a toasted bagel with cream cheese, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes and more.
