Taking a music class can be fun, educational and social, and it's never too late to learn an instrument. If you already know how to play, a class will help you build on your skills. Temple University's Boyer College of Music offers adult music classes to the Philadelphia community through its music prep program. The classes include instrument-based instruction for busy adults - take beginner or intermediate evening classes in piano, guitar or voice, for instance. Temple also has a class that assists in reducing stress through music and, if you're a parent of a child in the Suzuki program, there's a class that'll help you understand Suzuki and your role as a parent. If you're an experienced piano teacher, you can take a class on the in-depth learning process of the Suzuki method.

The New Jersey School of Music has two locations – one in Medford and one in Cherry Hill. The school offers private lessons on numerous instruments and even has many ensembles you are able to join (chamber group, woodwind ensemble, rock ensemble, violin ensemble, for example). Group classes are made available through the Cherry Hill Township Recreation Department and take place at its Cherry Hill location. Classes include instruction on guitar, piano, violin and flute. And if you want to learn with a friend, New Jersey School of Music also offers semi-private lessons.

Philly Music Lessons provides quality instructions to adults on many instruments: guitar, drums, piano, voice, violin, sax/clarinet, ukulele, bass, etc. The lessons take place either in-studio or in your home (the instructors will travel with the necessary equipment for your lesson). Originally just for children and teens, the School of Rock is now offering an adult program for those looking to rock out on stage. The program consists of a one-on-one lesson on a day that works for you and a two-hour rehearsal with a band once a week. The band rehearses chosen songs for two to three months before playing a live show. This course is perfect for those who already know how to play a rock instrument or even for those who have always wanted to learn, but never had the opportunity.

Settlement Music School has six locations in the area: South, West and Northeast Philadelphia, Germantown, Willow Grove and Camden. Regardless of age or musical background, Settlement Music School provides the community with over 10,000 hours of lessons and classes weekly. Individual lessons are available for students who prefer one-on-one interaction, but many classes are offered throughout the year. There are beginner and intermediate classes on guitar/drums/percussion, intro to piano and jazz improvisation/combos, just to name a few. Settlement Music School also has a class that allows you to form an "Adult Rock Band" if you already have previous experience on drums, bass, electric guitar, keyboards or singing.
