Top Lunch Spots Near Philadelphia's Jury Duty

It's inevitable that the jury duty summons card will make its way into your mailbox at some point during your life. Fortunately, Philadelphia's courthouse is located right in Center City and near many restaurants and lunch hotspots. Read on for the top lunch spots near Philadelphia's jury duty.

A.P.J. Texas Weiner Restaurant
47 N 13th St
Philadelphia, PA 19107
(215) 665-8081

A.P.J. Texas Weiner is named after its three founders – Arthur, Paul and James – who opened the place in 1920 and has been serving cheap and greasy food ever since. A Texas Weiner ordered with the "works" is a hotdog split in half and grilled, topped with chili, mustard and onions and served on a sandwich roll instead of a hot dog bun. Another staple of A.P.J Texas Weiner is its fish cake sandwich – a deep-fried fish cake with chili, cheese and mustard on a hotdog bun. This place is cash only.

Kabuki Sushi
45 N. 13th St.
Philadelphia, PA 19107
(215) 567-8600
www.kabukisushiphilly.com

There's a great sushi place right across the street from the courthouse called Kabuki Sushi. The place is small, so hopefully everyone called for jury duty isn't craving sushi during lunch, but it does offer take-out (and delivery) if you want to eat your food outside on a nice day. The food here is cheap and there are many sushi roll options to choose from including yellowtail jalapeno roll, cucumber roll and the rainbow roll (a California roll with raw fish and avocado). Other menu options include hibachi and bento boxes.

Old Nelson Food Company
35 S. 13th Street
Philadelphia, PA 19107
(215) 569-1719
www.oldnelsonfood.com

Old Nelson Food Company is a market and deli. With locations all around the city, there is one not much more than a block away from the juror selection building. This is the place to go for cheap sandwiches, hoagies, wraps and salads. It's even a great place to stop in before jury duty for a breakfast sandwich or a cup of La Colombe coffee.

Pastrami & Things
1234 Market St.
Philadelphia, PA 19107
(215) 405-0544

Pastrami & Things is a quick walk from the Criminal Justice Center. After leaving the building, head south on 13th Street towards Market Street and make a left – the deli will be on your right. This place serves hot and cold sandwiches including a fresh take on the classic Philly cheesesteak called the bulgogi cheesesteak. Hotdogs, cheeseburgers, pastries, donuts, Rueben sandwiches, hoagies and salads all can be found and enjoyed here.

Reading Terminal Market
51 N. 12th Street
Philadelphia, PA 19107
(215) 922-2317
www.readingterminalmarket.org

Reading Terminal Market is so close to the courthouse that you'll want to make a stop while on jury duty, whether it's for lunch or afterwards to shop for meats, baked goods or other gourmet goodies. Head to Meltkraft for a grilled cheese or stop by DiNic's for its famous roast pork and broccoli rabe sandwich. The options seem endless; Keven Parker's Soul Food Café, Kamal's Middle Eastern Specialties and Tootsie's Salad Express are just a few lunch places located in the market.
