If you're looking for food on the go, the streets of Philadelphia should be your go-to place. Philly is notorious for its many food carts and food trucks, and these mobile eateries serve up all types of street eats. From Philly favorites like cheesesteaks to vegan specialties to delightful desserts, there's something for everyone in the Philly outdoor food scene. Read on for where to find the best food carts and trucks in Philadelphia.

Sugar Philly

Philadelphia, PA 19104

Who says you can't get dessert to go? High-end desserts served streetside is the mantra for this patisserie on wheels. Sugar Philly's gourmet dessert truck is parked weekdays on 38th Street between Walnut and Sansom Streets, where three experienced chefs whip up treats like vanilla crème brulee and seasonally topped crème fraiche cheesecakes. The trio's signature specialty, French macaroons, are touted as the best in the city. Seasonal favorites include pumpkin custard and mango rice pudding. Catering is available.

Mike's Hot Dog Cart
24th and Passyunk Ave.
Philadelphia, PA 19146

This hot dog cart sets up regularly at the corner of 24th and Passyunk, just before the I-76 overpass, and you can't miss it -- mostly because the line of people will draw you attention to it. Indeed, this little silver wagon is a must for hotdog lovers. But you'll have to scoop up your jumbo dog  quickly at this unassuming stand, because once they sell out you'll have to wait until  the cart shows up again, and there's no set schedule.

It wouldn't be Philly without a cheesesteak option, and this is a particularly good one. The Drexel University campus is the parking spot for the popular SPOT food truck, which specializes in hand-butchered cheesesteaks, craft burgers and roast pork sandwiches. Owned and operated by a former butcher, SPOT has been a Drexel staple for more than four years, and it is a true Philadelphia success story. Not only was it honored as the Food Network's Food Truck of the Year in 2012, but due to the success of this high-end food truck, a brick and mortar location opened last fall. For a real taste of Philly, try the sirloin cheesesteak with Cheez Whiz and fried onions.
