This Midtown Village spot from Stephen Starr serves modern renditions of classic Mexican favorites. The crispy fried mahi mahi tacos are a standout choice, served with avocado, chipotle pepper remoulade and red cabbage. For another seafood option, go for the shrimp tacos topped with cotija cheese, avocado and spicy salsa de arbol. Both taco dishes are $13 and include two tacos.

Los Gallos in an authentic, no-frills taqueria in South Philly. Owner Luz Jimenez named the restaurant after Calle de Los Gallos (Street of the Roosters), the street where he grew up, located outside of Puebla. The fresh tilapia tacos are served with lettuce, avocado, pico de gallo, queso and a cream sauce. The flavorful dish includes three tacos for $9.99. Los Gallos is a BYOB.

Taqueria Feliz comes from the same restaurant team as Cantina Feliz and La Calaca Feliz. The Manayunk spot serves casual Mexican favorites like tacos, enchiladas and tortas, and the cheerful atmosphere makes it a fun spot for summer nights. The tempura tilapia tacos are served "Ensenada style" (named after a region in Baja California), which means they're battered, instead of breaded, and fried. The dish includes two tacos topped with avocado, cabbage slaw, radish and a spicy chipotle mayo for $13.95. Tacos are also available grilled upon request.
