A cupcake is the perfect snack for cake lovers who only want a little bit of delicious fun. You can find the best cupcakes in Philadelphia whether you are looking for something fancy such as boutique type cupcakes, something plain or for specialty diets. Here are the top 5 places to get the perfect cupcake for you in Philly.
Iced By Betsy
145 Main St
Royersford, PA.
(610)755-7062
www.icedbybetsy.com

Iced by Betsy produces gourmet cupcakes made from scratch with high quality ingredients. Cupcakes are made to order and personalized. You can order them as a catering order or find them at many local farmers markets. Iced by Betsy is beloved by the area and is the number one Philly Hotlist Winner from 2014. You can also visit their store; the flavors change daily (6 different types plus cake pops) and are posted on their Facebook page. Some customers have gone as far as saying these cupcakes are “the best on the planet.”

The Sweet Life Bakeshop
740 South St.
Philadelphia, PA. 19146
(215) 717-7770
www.facebook.com/the-sweet-life-bakeshop

Their puddings and cupcakes are quite popular, and though many people produce fresh cupcakes with excellent ingredients, the Sweet Life goes the extra step in making wonderful frostings. Icing is something overlooked or just taken for granted. Many people can make a delicious buttercream or whipped icing, but at the Sweet Life Bakeshop you will also find some bits of fruits. Try the lemon raspberry with bits of strawberries in the frosting. You can also order custom cakes.

Pudge Cakes
45 N Main St.
New Hope, PA. 18938
(215) 862-5060
www.pudgecakes.com

Pudge Cakes opened in 2012 and is a whimsical shop in the style of a retro kitchen. All of the ingredients used are the best money can buy, made with love and perfectly baked with a moist and gooey middle. Try the salted caramel; it’s just the right blend with a delicious caramel. Their baked goods were recently featured on the Food Network “Great American Food Finds” for their bacon brownies, which are very popular. They bake small batches and also sell custom cakes, Whoopie pies, cookies and cake pops. The shop is small but has counters and tables so you can eat your cupcake indoors or outdoors.

Sweet Freedom Bakery
1424 South St.
Philadelphia, PA.  19146
(215) 545-1899
www.sweetfreedombakery.com

Sweet Freedom Bakery is Philly’s only exclusive Gluten Free, vegan and allergy free specialty bake shop. Whether you have an allergy, food intolerance or are trying a new diet, this is the place to go to get those sweet delicious things you may crave, but haven’t mastered making yourself. They use only natural unrefined sugars and in some cases agave nectar (which has a lower glycemic index for those watching their sugars). They also use flours free of corn, wheat, gluten and are all vegan (so no eggs or dairy). You can try a variety of goodies such as chocolate, carrot, lemon-blueberry, banana and “fancy filled,” which can change but include fun flavors like root beer float, pumpkin pie and Neapolitan. Their website lists all the ingredients.

Termini Bros Bakery
1523 S 8th St
Philadelphia, PA. 19147
(215) 334-1816
www.termini.com

Ranked highly because of the simplicity of their cupcakes: good old plain vanilla is a huge hit among patrons of this establishment. Termini Bros just bakes up not too sweet, but moist cupcakes and decorates them with sprinkles. This is where you go when you want no frills and no pretentiousness. Their prices are good as well. If you are headed here for cupcakes, you may also want to try a cannoli, their other specialty, to go with your cupcake.
