Due to its prevalence on television, ballroom dancing is getting more attention than ever. Many people are interested in dancing as a way to get more exercise, socialize and have fun. While couples often decide to take dance lessons in preparation for their wedding, it's just as popular for single people in search of a new activity. Try a group dance class to meet new people and enjoy a night out, or schedule private lessons if you'd like more personal attention. Located just outside Northeast Philadelphia in Bensalem, La Luna offers a variety of dance options. Along with salsa and street Latin, Zumba, Argentine tango and swing, there are also two different styles of ballroom dancing taught. The Social Ballroom program is taught according to the American Style syllabus and considered more social, with less emphasis on competition and technique. These classes are available as private lessons and group sessions for all levels of experience. Dancesport competitive dancing follows the International Style syllabus and places a greater emphasis on technique and precision of movement. Located near Rittenhouse Square, Moving Image offers private and group lessons to Center City dancers of all skill levels. The studio won Best of Philadelphia awards for dance lessons both in 2011 and 2012. Group classes are offered in a variety of ballroom and Latin genres and are open to couples and individuals. Open enrollment makes it easy to join whenever you please. Group classes cost $10 to $15 per class. Private lessons are available for singles and couples who would like personalized attention in ballroom, Latin or wedding dance instruction. In a cozy area of University City, Take the Lead Dance Studio provides a fun, relaxed atmosphere that embraces the idea that anyone can dance. Classes are offered for children, teens and adults of all skills and in a variety of dance styles. While the emphasis is on ballroom and Latin dance, you can also take classes in ballet, belly dance, hip-hop, modern, traditional, salsa and Bollywood-style Indian dance. Six group lessons are offered for $75, while private lessons are offered in packages ranging from $75 for one lesson to $650 for private lessons. Private lessons are available by appointment only.

With locations in both Center City and Manayunk, there's no need to bring a partner, make reservations or commit to a single class. Society Hill offers plenty of convenience to anyone interested in ballroom dance. The open class cards, which range from 10 classes for $150 to 40 classes for $400, can even be shared with friends if you want to go in on a card together. These punch cards can be used at either location and expire after six months. Group classes are a wonderful way to meet new people and a fun event for a girls night out. Private lessons are also available for one-on-one instruction. The first lesson is free, allowing you to get a feel for the studio and the instructor to develop a lesson plan for you to reach your goals. Semi-private classes are available for groups of four. Private lessons are scheduled by appointment.

Top Hat offers the best of both worlds: an elegant atmosphere with a state-of-the-art "floating" ballroom floor and a friendly, welcoming environment. Classes are offered for all skill levels and to students as young as three years old. Group classes are the best way to get a feel for the dance style in a relaxed, inexpensive way. Dancers rotate throughout the class, so there is no need to bring your own partner. Group classes are offered at $12 per class, $60 for a six-class card or $195 for an unlimited monthly class card. Private lessons are offered to those who would like personal instruction, either alone or with a partner. Lessons are given in 25- or 50-minute increments and do not require any type of contract or membership fee. Take as many or as few classes as you'd like.
