City of Brotherly Love- you are about to get a whole lot more loving. No, we don't mean like that... get your head out of the gutter. We'd like to introduce to you the new, BYOB, no-tipping, brasserie and bruncherie, Girard. That's right, at your new dining haven you'll be able to hold onto that extra cash in order to buy your lovers and friends the gifts they really deserve this holiday season.

Last month, duo Cristian Mora (previously of Parc) and Chef Brian Oliveira (previously of Brasseries Perrier, Union Trust, and Honest Tom's) brought this hot spot to Fishtown, and opened it with an innovative concept in mind. These two decided after working in the restaurant business for several years that it was time to open an eatery that is not only beneficial for their customers (as they serve up amazing dishes) but also fair to their employees. Their model provides a livable wage for their employees, on top of health insurance, sick days and profit sharing (an incentive for employees to stick around and create a positive attitude to help the business grow).

So what else do you get to enjoy, besides all of that extra mullah? If you come in when the kitchen opens at 11am Tuesday through Friday and 8am Saturday and Sunday, you can select from a menu of breakfast favorites like the French Toast Gateau (dark cherry compote, espresso ice cream and hazelnut brittle) or the Omelette De Oliveira (lardon, cheddar, avocado and parsley). If you decided to come in a bit later, you can STILL enjoy these delicious breakfast favorites as well as other great dishes like the Brasserie Burger and Braised Lamb Shank.

Though this reservations-only restaurant is BYOB, Girard does serve up incredible coffee daily as well as great cocktails made with the alcohol you provide. Say you bring in Champagne; you can order some fresh squeezed OJ for a delicious mimosa, or if you bring in Vodka, they'll make you a bloody marie with house made tomato water. If it's coffee you're in the mood for though, this is definitely the place for you as well.

As you may have noticed above, this duo appreciates coffee so much they even incorporate it into their food. But you won't find your fru fru frapps, macchiatos, caps (that's the new cool way to say cappuccinos) or even lattes here. This coffee is for the strong; those who, like us, prefer to take their coffee through an intravenous drip.

So what we're saying here is, at Girard you'll receive a delicious all-day-breakfast (and other fare) alongside amazing coffee, served up by a wait staff who actually wants you to be happy, and you don't even have to leave them a tip. Sounds like the perfect spot to us… and LeSean McCoy.
