THE DEFENSE

Q: Hi Cadillac Jack! Welcome to Defend Your Ride Philly. Love your show and this Cadillac. When did you first get the name Cadillac Jack?

A: In high school, I drove a 1968 Cadillac, which could fit everyone. My dad originally bought the car when I was four. I got it when I turned 16. I had my license before most of my classmates, since my birthday was 11 days past the cutoff. I did most of the driving. My friends would call me Cadillac Jack!

Q: What can you tell us about this particular Cadillac?

A: I owned the 1968 Cadillac DeVille convertible until 2003. I had to sell it to pay rent and bills when I was between jobs. I always wanted to replace it with another big, old-school Caddy. I found this one on eBay, bought it and drove it home last year. It needed a little TLC and I needed a little hobby. It worked out nicely. Some people rescue pets, I rescue Cadillacs.

Q: What is the longest drive you've done in this car?

A: I've driven it to Virginia Beach and back twice, and do a lot of driving for a lot of pleasure. This thing floats on the road.

Q: Do you own other Cadillacs?

A: I have a pair of 'newer' Cadillacs, also classics: 1991 and 1992 Allantes. One is black, the other is white. They're identical convertibles I call Ebony and Ivory. They are Italian designed by Ferrari designer Sergio Pininfarina and very fun, luxury roadsters in mint condition.

Q: If you were to add another caddy to your collection, what kind do you think it would be?

A: I'm holding out for when Cadillac produces another four-seat convertible. I might look into an XLR in about five years, since it is an instant classic.

Q: Does your car have a nickname?

A: Beast-a-rado or The Beast for short.

Q: Finally, since you are a DJ and you know music so well, if you were to pick a song to be your car's theme song, what would it be?

A: "Look At That Cadillac" by The Stray Cats sounds good coming out of the speakers, but the Peter Gunn Theme would probably be this Beast's theme song.
