Nobody likes being lectured about their diet. It can make kids cranky and grandparents grumpy to be reminded to eat more of this or less of that.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recognizes this basic fact and that taste drives most food choices. For their annual National Nutrition Month education campaign in March 2014, the focus is on choice – choosing nutrient – rich foods that provide the most nutrition per calorie while being high in flavor. The theme this year is “Enjoy the taste of eating right.”

Clinical Nutrition Manager Penny Cappuccino of Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills, New Jersey suggests healthy switches of ingredients and preparation techniques to painlessly improve the quality of fuel we take in. The Heart Healthy Recipes tab at www.Deborah.org takes you to a library of recipes by Deborah’s Healthy Hearts Ambassador Chef Walter Staib of Philadelphia’s renowned City Tavern, as well as meal-planning and shopping advice from Ms. Cappuccino’s department.

She talks with KYW’s Rasa Kaye about eating for health, “super” foods and easy enhancements to turn yucky to yummy.
