TWEET IT: Region to Glow Pink Again as #CBS3 @KomenPhilly Launch 18th Annual #LightsfortheFight Campaign In Honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Philadelphia, September 30, 2019 – CBS 3 and Susan G. Komen® Philadelphia are turning the skyline across the region pink for the 18th year in a row in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Rebranded this year as LIGHTS FOR THE FIGHT, this campaign is our salute to the thousands of brave individuals in our region who have survived breast cancer and a reminder to all to stay vigilant in the fight.

Throughout the month of October, buildings and landmarks across the region from the Battleship New Jersey in Camden to Blast Furnace in the Lehigh Valley will turn their exterior lighting pink to promote the cause.  New buildings joining the campaign this year include The Franklin Residences, Apartments at 1200, and several at The Navy Yard. Also included are such landmarks as the National Constitution CenterBoathouse Row, and The Lits Building.

Since its launch in 2002, the LIGHTS FOR THE FIGHT campaign has utilized the airwaves of both CBS-owned stations in Philadelphia, CBS 3 and The CW Philly, to generate awareness of breast health, reminding our neighbors the importance of the fight to end breast cancer, every time a building or landmark is featured, glowing in pink, during Eyewitness News.

“These four little words, LIGHTS FOR THE FIGHT, pack a very powerful punch in our local efforts to save lives,” said Elaine I. Grobman, CEO, Komen Philadelphia. “From day one—and it’s been three decades now that we’ve been partners in the mission—CBS 3 has fully understood that there isn’t anything passive about the fight to end breast cancer. CBS 3 structured LIGHTS FOR THE FIGHT, to embody the reality that defeating breast cancer requires action on the part of everyone. Reminding a loved one to get a mammogram, holding a fundraiser, writing your senator for increased research support, distributing literature to uneducated populations, taking the hand of an underserved woman and walking with her to the doctor— LIGHTS FOR THE FIGHT, inspires our entire community to do their part. To join our fight. To save lives.”

“Since I started at CBS 3 and The CW Philly in August, I’ve been impressed with both stations’ dedication to the fight against breast cancer,” says Brandin Stewart, President and General Manager of the stations. “I’m looking forward to seeing the Philadelphia skyline glow pink this October. What a wonderful salute to the brave survivors and a crucial reminder to everyone that we must take action in the fight to end this disease.”
