Warm Drinks For Winter: Top Toddies

Back in the day, there was nothing a hot toddy couldn't cure…and today, it doesn't seem like much has changed! Banish the cold with one of these warm, boozy drinks and you'll be feeling toasty before you can even see the bottom of the glass. –Chelsea Karnash

Hot Spiked Apple Cider

It's not hard to imagine GDubs warming up with City Tavern's hot, spiked apple cider between Revolutionary War battles. And now, almost 250 years later, the tradition continues to draw Philadelphians in from the cold each winter.

Café Cuba Libre

Take a much-needed—albeit mental (boo)—vacation from the icy city streets with Cuba Libre's toasty Café Cuba Libre, made with Cuban coffee, steamed coconut milk and spiced rum.

Green Tea Hot Toddy

This newly-opened spot offers one of the city's more exotic hot cocktails, the Green Tea Hot Toddy. Made with locally-produced SNAP liqueur, green tea, honey, lemon and cinnamon, you'll almost be able to convince yourself you're doing your liver a favor by imbibing.

Hot Mulled Wine

Huddle under a heat lamp or near the fire pit at Frankford Hall, where you can sip on hot mulled wine that tastes better than any you could ever whip up in your kitchen (believe me, I've tried). Now—drunk Jenga, anyone?

Spiked Cider, Black and White Cappuccino

At London Grill, you're free to mix-and-match a plethora of alcohols into your hot apple cider. Not a cider fan? There's also the dessert-like Black and White Cappuccino, a mix of Tuaca, Godiva liqueur and cappuccino. For more info LG's drinks, check out our previous story.

Snowshoes, Drury Sleigh Ride

The friendly atmosphere here is enough to warm you up on its own, but the Snowshoes (hot chocolate, butterscotch liqueur and whipped cream) or the Drury Sleigh Ride (hot chocolate, crème de menthe, Ryan's Irish Cream and whipped cream) will help, too.

Irish Coffees

Make the windy trek from Center City to West Philly's New Deck, where you'll be rewarded with your choice of five alcohol-laced hot beverages, including the Hot Toddy (Irish whisky sweetened with sugar, lemon & cloves) and the Nutty Irish Coffee (black coffee with Bailey's, Irish cream & Frangelico). Sláinte, for sure.

Hot Buttered Rum

Enjoy a tropical toddy at Rum Bar, where the Hot Buttered Rum (made with a yummy "batter" of butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and vanilla that's added to water, Ron Zacapa and Canne Banane) is a winter fav.

Adult Hot Chocolate, Spiked Hot Spiced Apple Cider

Toast your long-gone childhood with Silk City's delectable Adult Hot Chocolate, featuring the good ol' winter classic paired with your choice of Bailey's, Patron XO or Stoli Vanilla. And for cider lovers, there's also the exactly-as-advertised Spiked Hot Spiced Apple Cider.

Hot Apple Pie

*also in Wayne, Pa.

Picture yourself frolicking during the warmer temps of fall as you nurse one of White Dog's four cider-based hot toddies. For a classy spin on a frat-house favorite, try the Hot Apple Pie, made with cider and amaretto and topped with whipped cream.
