LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (CBS) — The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture confirmed the state’s first positive case of the avian flu on Saturday. It was found in a flock of commercial chickens on a Lancaster County poultry farm.

The disease is highly infectious, and can be deadly for birds,  but it doesn’t pose a risk to the public.

Poultry and eggs are safe to eat if cooked properly.
