Teenager Killed In Trenton Shooting Identified As Shemiah Davis, Mercer County Prosecutor's Office Says

TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) -- The 15-year-old girl who was shot and killed in Trenton on Saturday night has been identified as Shemiah Davis, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office announced on Sunday. Three other victims, a 19-year-old woman, a 20-year-old and a 17-year-old male were also hit in the shooting.

The 19-year-old woman is in critical condition after being shot multiple times, while the 17-year-old male is in stable condition after being shot in the leg.

The prosecutor's office confirmed a 20-year-old victim was also recovering from the shooting.

"We was parking, and we hear the pop pop pop, and we run," one neighbor told CBS3 off-camera. "I ran in the house."

The shooting happened in the first block of Bellevue Avenue. The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and Trenton Police Department said "multiple rounds" were fired around 6:45 p.m., triggering a ShotSpotter alert.

For those who live in this neighborhood, those terrifying moments give way to the realization of a heartbreaking tragedy.

"This is a sad life," the neighbor said. "Fifteen. I don't know what you're gonna do, maybe doctor, maybe teacher, something like that. Right now, she gonna be doing nothing because she died."

Mayor W. Reed Gusciora released a statement Sunday on the deadly shooting, saying in part:

"Acting Police Director Steve Wilson and I are outraged following the senseless shooting of four Trentonians, ages 20, 15, 17, and 19, on Bellevue Avenue near North 25 Housing on Saturday evening. Tragically, the 15-year-old has passed away. We stand with these families in their hour of unspeakable pain.

The scourge of gun violence in cities across America is profoundly impacting our communities. It is terrifying and unsettling to feel the weight of this issue so close to our home and our hearts. Since January 2021, Trenton PD has taken more than 150 guns off our streets, and a new task force established by Acting Director Steve Wilson is poised to do more. We have reduced gun violence in our city by 20% compared to the same period last year. Together, we can bring the offenders of this shocking crime before the law's full force and begin the process of healing for our entire city."
