Tropical Storm Elsa Moves Out Of Delaware Valley After Slamming Jersey Shore With Heavy Rain, Strong Winds

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Tropical Storm Elsa moved through the Delaware Valley overnight, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. The storm produced several localized threats, including three tornado warnings along the coast.

There were no confirmed tornados but wind gusts of nearly 80 MPH were reported in Sea Isle City and 71 MPH winds in Harvey Cedars in Ocean County.

The overnight rain led to rising waters in Ocean City. Residents along 5th Street needed to move their cars in the middle of the night because of the knee-high water on the road.

Although Elsa raced off to the north, we're not out of the woods just yet.

On Friday, we will see sunshine break out with a quiet period of weather into mid-afternoon before the chance for scattered thunderstorms materializes this afternoon and evening. This is in association with an approaching cold front.

Some rain could be heavy but not as intense as with Elsa's embedded thunderstorms.

Storm chances should diminish by 11 p.m. Some drier air tries to build in particularly N & W, overnight to make for a more comfortable Saturday humidity-wise for most. An isolated shower or thundershower is possible Saturday afternoon otherwise, a nice start to the weekend is in store. Rain and storm chances increase once again as does the humidity for Sunday and Monday. Steamy highs in the 90's return Tuesday.
