FBI Urges Retests For Those Who Got COVID-19 Tests At Jersey Shore Lab

VENTNOR, N.J. (AP) — The FBI is asking anyone who underwent a coronavirus test at a Jersey Shore laboratory to get retested, and to contact the agency.

In a statement Friday on Twitter, the FBI's Newark office asked anyone who was recently tested for COVID-19 at Infinity Diagnostic Laboratory in Ventnor "to be retested as soon as possible."

It also asked that anyone who was administered a finger-prick blood test at the laboratory to contact a victim assistance unit at the FBI.

"Your response is voluntary but would be useful in a federal investigation," the post read. "Based on the response provided, you may be contacted by the FBI and asked to provide additional information."

The FBI did not specifically say why it was recommending re-testing. But it did say that, "As stated on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's website, 'rapid' finger prick blood tests for COVID-19 are antibody tests and should not be used for diagnosing active cases of COVID-19. Only a test that uses a nasal swab or saliva should be used to diagnose active cases of COVID-19."

The voicemail for the company's operations director Friday said the company was closed for the evening and did not offer an opportunity to leave a message.

A message left with the FBI seeking further information was not immediately returned.
