Coronavirus Philadelphia: Mayor Kenney Pushes Back Effective Date For Plastic Bag Ban Due To Pandemic

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney is pushing back the effective date for a ban on single-use plastic bags due to the coronavirus pandemic. The law will now go into effect on Jan. 1, 2021, instead of July 2.

Some say reusable cloth bags could carry the virus so disposable bags are a safer choice right now.

The ban was passed to reduce litter in the city.
