Death Of Man Probed After Police Chase Outside Trenton Hospital
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - State authorities are investigating the death of a man who was in police custody following a foot chase outside a New Jersey hospital. The New Jersey attorney general's office says Trenton police responded shortly before noon Friday to a report of a disturbed man outside St. Francis Hospital.
Authorities said officers found the subject, who attempted to flee but was pursued and restrained. The attorney general's office said the man "became unresponsive" during the encounter with officers. Police and emergency medical personnel tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Officials said the man's identity isn't being released. Under a law enacted in January of last year in New Jersey, the attorney general's office is required to investigate deaths that occur during encounters with law enforcement.
