Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney Tackles Gun Violence During Inauguration Address After Being Sworn In For Second Term
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney was sworn in for a second term at the city's 194th inauguration ceremony Monday morning at The Met. Along with the mayor, the city commissioner, members of City Council, and judges were among those who also took the oaths of office.
Council President Darrell Clarke remains in his leadership position, a post he's held since 2012.
Reducing poverty and violent crime, especially gun violence, were themes of Clark's address, as as as Kenney's speech.
"Nothing is more important to our administration than creating a safer and more just city for all of us," Kenney said. "It's no secret that the hardest part of this job for me has been addressing the senseless and unspeakable violence that happens on our streets every day."
The mayor plans to kick off his second term by signing two executive orders later today, formally outlining his priorities.
The mayor will also host a free concert this evening at The Met to thank Philadelphia residents for their support of his administration.
