Philadelphia Police: 21-Year-Old Critically Wounded After Chased Down, Shot Outside Of Philly Pretzel Factory In Mayfair

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A man is fighting for his life after he was chased down and shot on a busy street in Northeast Philadelphia. The shooting happened right in front of the Philly Pretzel Factory on Frankford Avenue near Bleigh Avenue, around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. The scene is across from the Mayfair Diner.

Police say surveillance video shows the shooter approaching a 21-year-old Hispanic man as he gets out of his car. The two men appear to get into an argument.

The suspect then chases the man while firing shots at him. Police say at least six shots were fired.

When officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds to his hip and shoulder. The victim was rushed to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

"Literally, it wasn't even five minutes, like it was really quick," witness Lisa Ward said. "It was like, really quick through the parking lot, around this way, shot, shot, shot, shot, shot, and they kept going."

Witnesses say the gunman sped away in a red SUV.

"It looks like it's a solo shooter, black male, comes up to the victim as he's getting out of his car, chases him down the street here, firing shots at him," Philadelphia Police Capt. John Walker said. "We aren't quite sure what the motive is here. At this point, it appears from the video that they may know one another."

No arrests have been made. There is no motive for the shooting at this time.

Police are urging anyone with information to give them a call.
