New Jersey Sues Operator Of What It Says Is Illegal Dump In Ocean County

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey is suing the operator of what it says is an illegal dump that in one year accepted thousands of tons of woodchips, crushed concrete and other materials. Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said in a statement Monday that Sam Russo operated an illegal solid waste disposal facility on a 94-acre property in Ocean County.

Grewal says that from April 2018 to April 2019 Russo brought in more than $300,000 in exchange for accepting tons of debris.

The suit claims that Russo and two companies under his control did so without getting legally required waste and water pollution permits.

A message was left seeking a response from Russo.

The state is seeking to halt dumping as well as penalties.
