American Women Having Fewer Babies Than Ever Before, Report Finds

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- American women are having fewer babies than ever before. A new report from the Centers for Disease Control says the nation's general fertility rate dropped to an all-time low last year.

The rate is based on the number of live births per 1,000 women. That rate dropped by 2%.

It's now at the level where the nation can not replace its existing population.
